The wars insides Chile’s Barracks: remembering Military Service under Pinochet
Durante los diecisiete años de la dictadura chilena, más de 370.000 jóvenes varones, casi exclusivamente de hogares humildes, pasaron por los cuarteles como conscriptos. En la primera década del siglo XXI, cerca de 100.000 de ellos comenzaron a romper su silencio y se movilizaron como parte de un movimiento de ex conscriptos, buscando pensiones, beneficios y reconocimiento como víctimas del régimen militar. Basado en testimonios, entrevistas, documentos inéditos y notas de campo, este libro analiza las memorias del servicio militar que emergieron con el movimiento en el siglo XXI y que revelan cómo se libraron las guerras de Pinochet en el interior de los cuarteles entre 1973 y 1990.

PhD de la University of Western Australia, es historiador de la Universidad Andrés Bello. Es autor de Ulrike Meinhof and The Red Army Fraction: Performing Terrorism (2011) y The wars inside Chile’s Barracks: Remembering Military Service under Pinochet (2017), que ganó el premio Mejor Libro (Ciencias Sociales) de la Sección de Estudios del Cono Sur de la Asociación de Estudios Latinoamericanos en 2018.
During the seventeen years of the Chilean dictatorship, more than 370,000 young men, almost exclusively from humble homes, went through the barracks as conscripts. In the first decade of the 21st century, nearly 100,000 of them began to break their silence and mobilized as part of a movement of ex-conscripts, seeking pensions, benefits and recognition as victims of the military regime. Based on testimonials, interviews, unpublished documents and field notes, this book analyzes the memories of military service that emerged with the movement in the 21st century and that reveal how they got rid of Pinochet's wars inside the barracks between 1973 and 1990.

He is the autor of Ulike Meinhof and the Red Army Faction: Performing Terrorism (2011) and The Wars inside Chile’s Barracks: Remembering Military Service under Pinochet (2017), wich won the Best Book (Social Sciences) award from the southern Cone Studies Section of the Association for Latin American Studies 2018.
