Sus novela novelas estás basadas en una profunda y acuciosa investigación histórica mediante la cual la autora busca desentrañar las vivencias, el sentir y el pensar de cada personaje. Para la creación de este texto, aclamado internacionalmente, se inspiró en la historia de una partera africana que guardaba una cuerda con 60 nudos, representando cada uno de los niños que mató después del parto para librarlos de la esclavitud.
Évelyne Trouillot nació el 2 de enero de 1954 en Puerto Príncipe. Creció en el seno de una de las familias más proliferas de la literatura y la cultura haitianas. Algunos de sus miembros más destacados son su tío, el historiador Hénock Trouillot; sus hermanos: el novelista Lyonel Trouillot y la autora de libros para niños Jocelyne Trouillot; así como el historiador y antropólogo Michel-Rolph Trouillot.
En 2004 Trouillot recibió el premio a la narrativa en lengua francesa que otorga el Club Soroptimist de Grenoble, por la novela Rosalía la Infame, que ha sido traducida también al italiano y al inglés.

Her novels are based on a deep and painstaking historical investigation through which the author seeks to unravel the experiences, feelings and thoughts of each character. For the creation of this internationally acclaimed text, she was inspired by the story of an African midwife who kept a rope with 60 knots, representing each of the children she killed after childbirth to free them from slavery.
Évelyne Trouillot was born on January 2, 1954 in Port-au-Prince. She grew up in one of the most prolific families in Haitian literature and culture. Some of its most prominent members are her uncle, the historian Hénock Trouillot; her siblings: novelist Lyonel Trouillot and children's author Jocelyne Trouillot; as well as the historian and anthropologist Michel-Rolph Trouillot.
In 2004 Trouillot received the French-language narrative prize awarded by the Soroptimist Club of Grenoble, for her novel Rosalie the Infamous.
