Alles ist beseelt. Würden wir dies glauben, wir gingen vermutlich anders mit einander, anderen Lebensformen und unserem Planeten um. Zu glauben, dass alles eine Seele hat, könnte in der Tat das Beste sein, was wir aktuell tun können – um unseren Planeten zu retten und unser eigenes Leben zu bereichern. Jedoch reicht es nicht aus, zu denken, es wäre vorteilhaft, etwas zu glauben. Wir sind nur fähig an Dinge zu glauben, von deren Wahrheitsgehalt und Sinnhaftigkeit wir überzeugt sind. Dass alles beseelt ist, erscheint vielen, nun ja, offensichtlich und eklatant unwahr.
Ashley Curtis wurde 1959 in Kalifornien geboren. Er studierte chinesische und biblische Literatur an der Yale Universität sowie Physik und Physikpädagogik am Smith College. Von 2009 bis 2014 war er Schulleiter an der Ecole d’Humanité in Hasliberg, Berner Oberland. Im Kommode Verlag erschienen bisher der Shakespeare-Krimi Hexeneinmaleins (2019) sowie die philosophischen Plädoyers Irrtum und Verlust (2017) und Alles ist beseelt(2021). Weitere Publikationen erschienen bei Bergli Books. Curtis lebt zur Zeit in Domodossola in Norditalien, wo er als Schriftsteller, Lektor und Übersetzer tätig ist.
The currently unfolding ecological catastrophe is the result of more than just deforestation, fossil fuel extraction, and factory farming. Ashley Curtis was born in California in 1959. He studied Chinese and biblical literature at Yale and physics and physics pedagogy at Smith College. He taught for many years at the Ecole d’Humanité in Hasliberg, Switzerland, where he served as co-director from 2009 to 2014. He is the author of Error and Loss: A License to Enchantment (2017), The Soul in the Stone - Why the Worldview That Will Save Our Planet Is More Credible Than the One That Is Destroying It (2023) and the mystery novel Hexeneinmaleins (2019), all of them published by the Kommode Press, and the cultural history “O Switzerland!” (Bergli). He lives just outside the Val Grande National Park in northern Italy.
