A collection of thirty-six accounts of lives and struggles gathered by the filmmaker Zainab Entezar and transcribed by Assef Soltanzadeh, these testimonies come from female protesters whom Zainab met at a time when they were stepping up their campaign for women’s rights following the Taliban’s return to power between 2021 and 2022. Subjected to blackmail, imprisonment and torture, as well as being exploited and abandoned by Western governments, they were gradually forced into silence or into exile.
These accounts shed valuable and important light on the history of Afghanistan and the struggles of women over recent decades. These are rare testimonies of immense power.
