Kamba Kanté décide de devenir femme. C’est quoi, être femme pour elle ? Ce n’est pas une question de sexe, ni de grossesse, ni d’accouchement, ni d’allaitement. Ce n’est pas non plus avoir mal au ventre et taire ses sentiments et ses désirs. Être une femme pour elle, c’est se battre pour être reconnue comme être humain.
Ibrahima Lanséni Coulibaly, alias BRICOUL, écrivain malien, est archéologue de formation, Maître de Conférences à l’Université des Sciences Sociales et de Gestion de Bamako. Il a déjà publié aux Éditions Tombouctou Un silence coupable (Prix Union européenne Premier roman 2019), Le corbeau blanc (Mention spéciale du jury du Prix Ahmed Baba 2020), Le poids du serment (Prix Massa Makan Diabaté 2021), Le destin d’Atoum (2022). Derrière le rideau est son cinquième roman.
Kamba Kanté decides to become a woman. What does being a woman mean to her? It's not about sex, pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding. Nor is it about having a stomachache and keeping your feelings and desires to yourself. For her, being a woman means fighting to be recognised as a human being.
Ibrahima Lanséni Coulibaly, alias BRICOUL, is an archaeologist by training and a lecturer at the University of Social Sciences and Management in Bamako. He has already published Un silence coupable (European Union First Novel Prize 2019), Le corbeau blanc (Special mention of the jury of the Prix Ahmed Baba 2020), Le poids du serment (Prix Massa Makan Diabaté 2021) and Le destin d'Atoum (2022) with Éditions Tombouctou. Behind the Curtain is his fifth novel.
