Pour mieux affronter les bouleversements entrainés par son ascension sociale, Farida a dû s’éloigner des siens. Pour sa fille, Asmaa, cette distance avec sa famille élargie est devenue un poids insupportable. Voulant en comprendre les raisons silencieuses, elle questionne obstinément une Farida réticente. Dans cette confrontation mère-fille, les barrières érigées comme une protection commencent à s’effriter, les effacements ordonnés par la réussite sociale émergent. Naît alors un récit, qui embrasse les méandres de la mémoire mais aussi de l’imagination, quand il faut combler les zones restées floues, dans lequel les impasses deviennent toutefois des chemins plus vivables, et les lignes moins rigides.
Nouvelle voix littéraire, inventive, sensible, intense, Kaoutar Chaqchaq livre un premier roman qui explore les liens fragilisés, les vies éclipsées, la porosité des existences.
Née à Tanger, Kaoutar Chaqchaq est sociologue de formation, et auteure de textes littéraires et critiques. En 2016, elle cofonde le collectif littéraire expérimental et décolonial « Asameena », espace éditorial adossé à une publication en ligne, puis à une revue imprimée.

To better cope with the upheavals brought about by her social ascent, Farida had to distance herself from her family. For her daughter, Asmaa, this distance from her extended family became an unbearable burden. Wanting to understand the unspoken reasons behind it, she persistently questions a reluctant Farida. In this mother-daughter confrontation, the barriers erected as protection begin to crumble, and the erasures imposed by social success emerge. A narrative then unfolds, embracing the meanders of memory as well as imagination, when it becomes necessary to fill in the gaps left in the narrative, in which dead ends become more livable paths, and the lines less rigid.
A new literary voice—inventive, sensitive, and intense—Kaoutar Chaqchaq delivers a debut novel that explores fragile bonds, lives eclipsed, and the permeability of existence.
Born in Tangier, Kaoutar Chaqchaq is a sociologist by training and the author of literary and critical texts. In 2016, she co-founded the experimental and decolonial literary collective "Asameena," a publishing space initially supported by an online publication, and later by a print journal.
Porous Days is her first novel.
