Ce livre, Grann Rita et les Lwa ou le Vodou expliqué aux enfants (et à leurs parents), répond à une nécessité pour chaque enfant haïtien ou d’origine haïtienne, vivant en Haïti ou à l’étranger, celle de disposer d’un ouvrage qui lui ouvre les yeux sur une culture ancestrale et sur des croyances dont les racines sont profondément ancrées dans son histoire, son pays et sa famille.
Plus largement, ce livre s’adresse aux enfants de toutes nationalités, dans l’objectif de leur ouvrir une porte sur le Vodou, une tradition spirituelle et culturelle venant d’Afrique de l’Ouest et largement répandue en Haïti, mais que l’on retrouve aussi sous des formes et pratiques à peu près semblables au Brésil, à Cuba, à la Jamaïque et à Trinité et Tobago. Sans oublier la pratique à la source africaine, dans des pays d’Afrique de l’Ouest comme le Bénin, l’ancien Royaume du Dahomey.
L’ouvrage se veut un regard laïc, citoyen et contemporain pour sensibiliser les jeunes haïtien·ne·s et leur transmettre des informations sur un fait sociologique et religieux qui détient de manière indéniable une part de leur identité. Qui est intimement imbriqué dans leur Histoire.
Evains Wêche, né le 5 mars 1980, à Corail, dans le sud-ouest d'Haïti, est médecin de formation et écrivain. Il a travaillé comme bibliothécaire et animateur culturel à la Bibliothèque Justin Lhérisson (BJL) de Carrefour aux côtés de Lesly Giordani. Revenu s'installer dans la Grand'Anse, il continue d'encadrer les jeunes au Centre Numa-Drouin, centre de documentation et d'animation culturelle supporté par la Fondation Connaissance et Liberté (FOKAL) avant de rejoindre l'équipe de l'Alliance Française de Jérémie. Il organise des cliniques mobiles dans les différentes sections communales du département tout en menant des ateliers d'écriture et de lecture à l'Alliance.
Kettly Mars est née en 1958, à Port-au-Prince. Romancière, poète et nouvelliste, elle est une écrivaine audacieuse et évocatrice qui offre de nouvelles perspectives sur les réalités contemporaines et un exposé vibrant et nuancé de la société haïtienne. La sensualité et l'érotisme sont un aspect important de sa littérature, sa façon de faire tomber les barrières et de voyager librement dans ses personnages.
This book, Grann Rita and the Lwa or Vodou Explained to Children (and Their Parents), responds to a need for every Haitian child or of Haitian origin, living in Haiti or abroad, that of having a work which opens his eyes to an ancestral culture and to beliefs whose roots are deeply anchored in his history, his country and his family.
More broadly, this book is aimed at children of all nationalities, with the aim of opening a door to Vodou, a spiritual and cultural tradition coming from West Africa and widely spread in Haiti, but which we also find in roughly similar forms and practices in Brazil, Cuba, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago. Without forgetting the practice at the African source, in West African countries such as Benin, the former Kingdom of Dahomey. The work aims to provide a secular, civic and contemporary perspective to raise awareness among young Haitians and transmit information to them on a sociological and religious fact that undeniably holds part of their identity. Which is intimately intertwined with their History.
Evains Wêche, born March 5, 1980, in Corail, in the southwest of Haiti, is a trained doctor and writer. He worked as a librarian and cultural facilitator at the Justin Lhérisson Library (BJL) at Carrefour alongside Lesly Giordani. Returning to settle in Grand'Anse, he continued to supervise young people at the Numa-Drouin Center, a documentation and cultural animation center supported by the Fondation Connaissance et Liberté (FOKAL) before joining the team of Alliance Française of Jérémie. He organizes mobile clinics in the different municipal sections of the department while leading writing and reading workshops at the Alliance.
Kettly Mars was born in 1958, in Port-au-Prince. Novelist, poet and short story writer, she is a bold and evocative writer who offers new perspectives on contemporary realities and a vibrant and nuanced exposition of Haitian society. Sensuality and eroticism are an important aspect of her literature, her way of breaking down barriers and travelling freely with her characters.
