Notre utilisation de l’énergie engendre aujourd’hui des répercussions inédites sur le système Terre. Pour comprendre comment nous en sommes arrivés là, au point de basculer dans l’Anthropocène, Victor Court propose une ambitieuse histoire mondiale des sociétés humaines par le prisme de l’énergie. Victor Court est ingénieur en sciences de l’environnement et docteur en économie. Il enseigne et mène des recherches en France sur les interactions entre changement technique, transition énergétique et prospérité économique. L’emballement du monde est son premier essai.
Our use of energy is now having unprecedented repercussions on the Earth system. To understand how we got to this point, to the point of tipping over into the Anthropocene, Victor Court proposes an ambitious world history of human societies through the prism of energy. Going back to the sources of the changes that humanity has undergone over the course of its evolution, he shows the ruptures caused by the successive exploitation of the sun, wind, water and fossil fuels, and its effect on the modes of social organization and the relationships of domination. Faced with the lightning acceleration of the world over the last 200 years, the author ultimately asks the question of the future of the human adventure: what if, between technical progress and global collapse, a path of sobriety were to emerge?
Victor Court is an engineer in environmental sciences and has a PhD in economics. He teaches and conducts research in France on the interactions between technical change, energy transition and economic prosperity. L'emballement du monde is his first essay.
