The Salary
». Que s’est-il passé ?
Paul-Marie TRAORÉ, écrivain malien, poète et romancier, a déjà publié plusieurs romans aux Editions Tombouctou dont Les fils Kabendy (Prix Ahmed Baba 2018). Le salaire est paru en janvier 2026.
Two young Malians, initially strangers to one another, share the same dream: to build a lasting life in Europe. Circumstances bring them together, and eventually, Bamby and Amity become husband and wife. A child is born. To top it all off, Bamby lands a position at an international organization, while Amity works at a pediatric hospital in Paris. Both seem fulfilled. Yet, when the time comes to go back, Amity refuses to return home. When her furious husband hurls the word "ungrateful" at her, she retorts: "That is the price you pay for being an unrepentant teacher!" What happened?
