Born to a rich father who was dominated by his first wife, Wouddy was disinherited, then pushed out of the house by his half-brothers and their mother on the death of their common parent, from whom he nevertheless received a plot of land to feed his mother. He is a brave man, but leprosy gets in the way. His supposed engagement is broken off because no one would want a man destined for mutilation. And for a trivial affair between women, the chief expels him from the village. But Wouddy recovers from his illness because he is quickly taken care of. Then, everything seems to work out for him until the storms and sadness arrive.
