Plant Migrations
Arrimé au sol par ses racines, le monde végétal semble constituer au sein du vivant le règne de l’immobilité. Pourtant, les plantes aussi se déplacent. Textes scientifiques et critiques, entretiens, poèmes, enquêtes et photographies entrent en conversation pour interroger les modalités de leurs migrations, en dehors des rejets que provoquent parfois les plantes dites « invasives », miroirs de nos peurs. Suivre le végétal dans ses voyages invite à conjuguer l’émerveillement face à la puissance de résistance des plantes migrantes et le trouble induit par les ambiguïtés (post-)coloniales de la transplantation des vivants. Les plantes vagabondes ouvrent notre attention aux friches et aux bords de routes : elles appellent une approche paysagère des brassages planétaires et suscitent des pratiques indisciplinées de la recherche, du jardinage et des arts.
Marion Grange est agrégée de lettres modernes et doctorante à l’EHESS (CRAL) sous la direction de Marielle Macé et Xavier Garnier. Sa thèse examine la manière dont les écritures francophones de la Terre relient les « crises » et imaginaires écologique et migratoire.
Bronwyn Louw prépare une thèse à l’EHESS, intitulée « Comment écrire le verger au XXIe siècle ? (Poésies, pensées, pratiques) », sous la direction de Marielle Macé et Jean-Marc Besse. Elle a cocréé l’entresort Station Verger (2020) et Station Verger Podcast (2023). En 2023, elle a notamment présenté son approche agropoétique du verger à Oxford et à Brown.
Firmly anchored to the ground by its roots, the plant world seems to be the kingdom of immobility within the living world. Yet plants also move. Scientific and critical texts, interviews, poems, surveys and photographs enter into a conversation to question the modalities of their migrations, apart from the rejections sometimes provoked by so-called "invasive" plants, mirrors of our fears. Following plants on their travels invites us to combine wonder at the power of resistance of migrating plants with the confusion induced by the (post)colonial ambiguities of transplanting the living. Wandering plants open our attention to wastelands and roadsides: they call for a landscape approach to planetary cross-fertilization and give rise to undisciplined
practices in research, gardening and the arts.
Marion Grange is aggregated in modern literature and a doctoral student at EHESS (CRAL) under the supervision of Marielle Macé and Xavier Garnier. Her thesis examines the way in which French-language writings about the Earth link ecological and migratory "crises" and imaginaries.
Bronwyn Louw is preparing a thesis at EHESS, entitled "Comment écrire le verger au XXIe siècle (Poésies, pensées, pratiques)", under the supervision of Marielle Macé and Jean-Marc Besse. She co-created the entresort Station Verger (2020) and Station Verger Podcast (2023). In 2023, she presented her agropoetic approach to the orchard at Oxford and Brown.
