Saara
Une jeune femme libre, Saara, resplendissante au milieu des pudeurs de la ville. Un petit mendiant sourd-muet qui entend tout et refoule ses colères. Un Cheikh, sage parmi les sages d’une paisible oasis, perturbé par une passion interdite. Une administration corrompue, qui veut ériger un barrage sur les cœurs des gens. Et une montagne d’où s’échappent, le soir, d’étranges grondements.
La poésie de Beyrouk plane au-dessus de ce récit poignant. S’il dénonce férocement les injustices sociales, le grand auteur mauritanien en appelle aussi au respect de la nature, ainsi qu’à l’ancrage dans la tradition. Il nous livre là un texte enchanteur, sensuel, empli de spiritualité et d’émotion.
Beyrouk est né à Atar, dans le Nord mauritanien. Il est aujourd’hui reconnu comme l’une des voix essentielles de la Literature de Mauritanie. Plusieurs de ses romans ont été primés et traduits.
A free young woman, Saara, resplendent in the midst of the city's prudishness. A small deaf-mute beggar who hears everything and represses his anger. A Sheikh, a wise man among the wise men of a peaceful oasis, disturbed by a forbidden passion. A corrupt administration, which wants to build a dam on people's hearts. And a mountain from which strange rumblings escape in the evening.
Beyrouk's poetry hovers over this poignant tale. While he fiercely denounces social injustices, the great Mauritanian author also calls for respect for nature and for anchoring in tradition. He delivers an enchanting, sensual text, full of spirituality and emotion.
Beyrouk was born in Atar, in northern Mauritania. He is now recognized as one of the essential voices of Mauritanian literature. Several of his novels have been awarded prizes and translated.
