En Asham, la religión de la Diosa ha perdido su poder y los más vulnerables encuentran refugio en el culto del Dios Dormido. Mientras tanto, el Malikato extiende su sombra con el eco de cadenas. En la Pampa, la novicia Viqqe sueña con unirse a la Hermandad Descalza y combatir las aberraciones de la Oscuridad. En Asham, el niño Manalut despierta multitudes predicando rebelión. Pero el tejido del mundo está roto: la Madresombra se infiltra en el Crisol y en el cielo cargado de fotobios aparece una criatura misteriosa. Las falsanoches se multiplican. Una nueva Devastación podría estar comenzando.
