One of the few books that approaches the mothers of the Cuban Utopia, this biographic essay is about one who was not only at the beginning and key moments but who created Casa de las Américas, an institution that still define the “Latin-American” in literature, music, theatre, painting, and which still promotes cultural decolonization. The author comes and go from the personal to the political through pictures, letters and testimonies of Haydée Santamaría; her childhood, the assault of Cuartel Moncada (where her brother and boyfriend died) the triumph of the Revolution, the model of Casa de las Americas where she applied her passionate intelligence and her controversial suicide in 1980.
