Au XIXe siècle, sur la plage d’Aného, Anani est trahi par son propre frère et livré aux horreurs d’un navire négrier.
Débarqué en Virginie, il rallume la flamme de la révolte et conduit une insurrection d’esclaves d’une férocité inédite. Devenu libre après la Guerre de Sécession, Anani choisit cette fois les mots comme armes et écrit Tulabo, un roman visionnaire où un justicier noir incarne la résistance et l’Esperance pour tous les opprimés.
Plus d’un siècle plus tard, au XXIe siècle, la prêtresse vodu Ayoko, descendante d’Anani, invoque un sortilège pour faire renaitre Tulabo, héros qui se dresse contre de nouveaux oppresseurs : néocolonialisme, dictature et confiscation de la liberté.
Ayayi Togoata APÉDO-AMAH, enseignant-chercheur, critique littéraire, dramaturge et journaliste, est un ardent défenseur des droits de l’Homme. Membre fondateur de la revue Propos scientifique, auteur de plusieurs romans et pièces de théâtre à succès, il se distingue comme une voix majeure de la scène intellectuelle et artistique togolaise.
In the 19th century, on the beach at Aného, Anani was betrayed by his own brother and handed over to the horrors of a slave ship.
After being unloaded in Virginia, he reignites the flame of rebellion and leads a slave uprising of unprecedented ferocity.
Having gained his freedom after the Civil War, Anani chooses words as his weapons this time and writes Tulabo, a visionary novel in which a Black vigilante embodies resistance and hope for all the oppressed.
More than a century later, in the 21st century, the Voodoo priestess Ayoko, a descendant of Anani, casts a spell to bring Tulabo back to life, a hero who stands up against new oppressors: neocolonialism, dictatorship, and the deprivation of freedom.
Ayayi Togoata APÉDO-AMAH, a professor and researcher, literary critic, playwright, and journalist, is a passionate advocate for human rights. A founding member of the journal Propos scientifique and the author of several successful novels and plays, he stands out as a leading voice in Togo’s intellectual and artistic scene.
