Dear Algorithm: The Wed Luck Show
Two sisters living in two different countries, Nigeria and Canada, have big announcements to make to their parents about marriage and finding love. While the older sister, Mondi, appears unsure of where she stands between convention and her desires, her younger sister, Yola, is all set for an extreme adventure that threatens to tear their family apart. Set mostly in Nigeria, Dear Algorithm: The Wed Luck Show tells the story of a family that must decide whether to uphold traditional values or accept that the happiness of one or all trumps longstanding societal values every time. The heart of the novel lies in the decisions Maxwell and Henriba Ogoriba must make, not just about their two daughters, but also about their son, Ezekiel, whose one wish is to explore his creativity in Canada.
Nigerian Canadian novelist Michael Afenfia crafts vivid stories of identity and migration. A Chinua Achebe Prize finalist, he lives in Saskatchewan, writing and advocating for inclusive narratives.
