Five centuries separate us from the tragic events experienced by the Italian philosopher Giordano Bruno (Tula 1548 - Rome 1600). His crime was that he thought freely. And freedom of thought is what most disturbs religions, and what most troubles the guardians of religion in all faiths. Therefore, the Church burned him at the stake, annihilating his body and reducing it to ashes. But his ideas remained, fluttering in the air, clinging to his memory, and no power, however sanctified or pure, could erase them from existence. Surely, Bruno would have met the same fate had he been born in the world of Islam or Judaism: the belief in an infinite number of worlds negates the concept of the afterlife in all three religions. Acknowledging the eternity of the world is a complete denial of creation from nothing, a fundamental tenet of faith in all three religions.. …………………………… His criticism of Moses, and his claim that he was a cunning imposter, would have cost him excommunication and perhaps even death at the hands of Jews and Muslims. His contempt for the prophets of the campaign and his view of them as a group of liars is something that no believer would accept and would have led to his being declared an infidel by both Muslims and Jews. His denial of Mary's virginity is a denial of what is known by necessity in the religion and is considered disbelief in Islam because it contradicts the Quran. The belief in the unity of the soul with the body is a crushing of the idea of resurrection and the Day of Judgment, and is clear disbelief in Islam, Christianity, and some Jewish sects. Reading forbidden books is prohibited in all monotheistic religions.
