Héros sans gloire (Abtal Bila Majd) est la monographie du mouvement armé révolutionnaire marocain des années soixante. L’histoire remonte, pour certains de ses acteurs, aux sombres événements des débuts de l’Indépendance, au démantèlement de l’Armée de libération nationale du sud ou encore, pour les plus jeunes, aux déceptions suscitées par cette même Indépendance et à l’assassinat de Mehdi Ben Barka. Elle retrace l’aventure d’hommes qui ont porté l’espoir révolutionnaire au Maroc au nom de la dignité et de la liberté d’un peuple. Une aventure qui connaîtra son dénouement tragique lors des « événements de mars 1973 » qui ont secoué le Maroc et tout particulièrement l’Atlas.
En 1995, Mehdi Bennouna entame cinq ans d’enquête et d’entretiens auprès des survivants. Il recueille les témoignages des protagonistes, témoins directs ou personnes ayant eu un lien avec cette révolution avortée. Puis la nature même du sujet de l’étude l’imposant, un mouvement « clandestin » dont chaque acteur a une vision compartimentée, il recoupe et interprète les documents et témoignages pour reconstituer certains faits et dialogues. Seuls quelques détails sont imaginés « pour mieux restituer la puissance évocatrice des faits ». C’est donc toute une organisation, ses membres, ses chefs, ses idéaux et ses actions, qui est ainsi présentée, dans le but de « réhabiliter un épisode de l’histoire contemporaine, dévoyé par le silence des uns et le mensonge des autres ».
Mehdi Bennouna : Né en 1967 en Allemagne de l’Est, alors que son père, ingénieur, y encadrait une section de l’UNEM. Il est le fils de Mohamed Bennouna, dit Mahmoud, l’un des principaux protagonistes de cette histoire. En Suisse à partir de 1974, il y a fait des études d’anthropologie à l’université de Lausanne. En 1993, il a également achevé un troisième cycle à l’Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris. Il réside et travaille actuellement en Suisse.
Hero without glory (Abtal Bila Majd) is the monograph of the Moroccan revolutionary armed movement of the sixties. The story goes back, for some of its actors, to the dark events of the beginnings of Independence, the dismantling of the National Liberation Army of the South or, for the youngest, the disappointments aroused by this same Independence and the assassination of Mehdi Ben Barka. It recounts the adventure of men who brought revolutionary hope to Morocco in the name of the dignity and freedom of a people. An adventure that will have its tragic outcome during the «events of March 1973» that shook Morocco and especially the Atlas.
In 1995, Mehdi Bennouna began five years of investigation and interviews with survivors. He collects the testimonies of the protagonists, direct witnesses of people who had a link with this aborted revolution. Then the very nature of the subject of the study imposing it, a «clandestine» movement of which each actor has a compartmentalized vision, it intersects and interprets the documents and testimonies to reconstruct certain facts and dialogues. Only a few details are imagined «to better restore the evocative power of facts». It is thus an entire organization, its members, its leaders, its ideals and its actions, that is presented in order to “rehabilitate an episode of contemporary history, distorted by the silence of some and the lie of others”.
Mehdi Bennouna: Born in 1967 in East Germany, while his father, an engineer, supervised a section of UNEM. He is the son of Mohamed Bennouna, said Mahmoud, one of the main protagonists of this story. In Switzerland from 1974, he studied anthropology at the University of Lausanne. In 1993, he also completed a third cycle at the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris. He currently lives and works in Switzerland.
