In the shadow of the springs I saw
In the Shadow of the Springs I Saw is an exploration of people and the stories of their lives in the Art Deco buildings of Springs. Drawing on the ethnographic tradition the novel imagines the lives of those who live in a space that is not theirs historically that they made their own. In a time of doom and complaint, here is a new narrative: one of revival, vigour, and celebration. The city centre of Springs, an old mining town, is now home to people from all over Africa. The architecture offers as a nostalgic connection to the past. The bold Art Deco buildings were ahead of their time and still retain their majesty, although now a bit shabby and worn.
