Loanwords from colonial languages in Yemba
L’utilisation d’unités lexicales d’origine étrangère, et notamment d’origine occidentale, est devenue si abondante qu’elle trahit de plus en plus le contenu des discours en langue yemba au non-locuteur. La présente œuvre jette un regard sur les conditions de rencontre des deux cultures, afin de déterminer jusqu’où elles peuvent être responsables du phénomène. Au-delà, elle examine non seulement la nécessité de certains des items empruntés, mais aussi le comportement de ceux que la langue yemba a intégrés, ceci par rapport au système de la langue.

The use of lexical items of foreign origin, particularly those borrowed from Western languages, has become so pervasive that it increasingly reveals the content of yemba-language discourse even to non-speakers. This book examines the historical and cultural circumstances under which these two cultures came into contact, with a view to determining the extent to which such encounters account for this phenomenon. Beyond this, it explores not only the necessity of some of these borrowed lexical items but also the ways in which those adopted into yemba have been integrated and adapted within the language's own linguistic system.
