Of All Things, We Need Hope, is a story of hope, forgiveness, restorative and retributive justice, told through the eyes of a woman who wilfully befriends her son’s murderer while he is serving a life sentence in prison.

For 21 years, Heather works tirelessly to keep her son’s killer, Smith, safe while he is in prison. With patience and love she works to rehabilitate him and to give him hope and a reason to live so that he can ultimately be released. She loses everything: but she is not deterred, not even when she finds the one true love of her life that is so deep and terrifying to her that she must turn it away before it destroys her mission to rehabilitate Smith.

Above all this story is of the long, slow burn of one mother’s love, that transcends all else.
