Kikuyo Editorial

Kikuyo Editorial is an interdependent publishing collective that places its practice at the service of social struggles and collective cultural work. We strive to de-elitize access to books, understanding publishing as a tool for political, aesthetic, and perceptual intervention. From the Andes, we foster editorial processes that articulate embodied productions, situated knowledge, and experimental graphic forms. Our notion of the organic book refers to publications woven from and for specific communities: communities that inhabit daily other ways of creating, organising, living. This way, we produce living books, crossed by our territory, memory, visual culture, and the material conditions of their making. We understand the book as a device for collective thought, mutual care, and the circulation of possible worlds. As Andean editors, artists, and writers, we are formed in a motley, layered way. We inhabit Anzaldúa’s Nepantla and trust in the champurria power invoked by Catrileo. From the liminal, we build a political editorial archetype rooted in mixture and intersection. Thus, our model of editorial production is a hybrid between the artisanal crafting of the object and certain techniques of industrial production.
