Neuf millions de palestiniens travers le monde subissent depuis 1948 un déni d’existence. Né du refus de ce négationnisme, ce livre traite la question d’identité palestinienne à travers ce que l'historien et écrivain Elias Sanbar appelle les figures identitaires. Un choix fondé sur le désir de rétablir les faits mais également, et surtout, sur un parti-pris théorique consistant à les aborder de façon nouvelle, grâce une approche d’anthropologie historique, seule apte en livrer les clés fondamentales.
Elias Sanbar est né en 1947 à Haïfa. Quelques mois après sa naissance, sa famille est contrainte de s’exiler et s’installe à Beyrouth, puis à Paris. Toute l’œuvre d’Elias Sanbar est marquée par le conflit israélo -palestinien. Traducteur du poète Mahmoud Darwich, il est aussi fondateur et rédacteur en chef de la Revue d’études Palestiniennes.
Since 1948, nine million Palestinians around the world have been denied their existence. Born out of a rejection of this denial, this book addresses the question of Palestinian identity through what historian and writer Elias Sanbar calls identity figures. This choice is based on the desire to re-establish the facts, but also, and above all, on a theoretical bias that consists of approaching them in a new way, using a historical anthropology approach, which is the only one capable of providing the fundamental keys to understanding them.
Elias Sanbar was born in Haifa in 1947. A few months after his birth, his family was forced into exile and settled in Beirut, then Paris. All of Elias Sanbar's work is marked by the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. A translator of the poet Mahmoud Darwish, he is also the founder and editor-in-chief of the Revue d'études Palestiniennes (Journal of Palestinian Studies).
